Last year I purchased an Xbox One per my friend Bun’s recommendation. Bun is a gamer. I am a fairweather gamer. Meaning I like video games, but I don’t love them. Games that I do love I will Stan for them all day. But most games do nothing for me.
So why invest in a game system at all? Well, like I said I do like games and because video game systems now are much more than just for gaming I can justify the expense. Gaming systems are entertainment hubs complete with apps I have put to use to watch television content. I also own an Xbox 360 and I have games for that system I have not played which brings me to the point of this post hiatus post. Because I don’t like many of the genres that games are made for (primarily fantasy and sci-fi) I struggle to find games to play. Bun asked me about games I owned for the 360 and what my thoughts were on those.
I loved the earlier Call of Duty offerings. I didn’t start playing CoD until 2010 and I enjoyed most of the series from the original to the Modern Warfare 3 installment which was a pretty decent run. To avoid any more of a tangent I’ll cut to the chase. Bun asked me about a particular game, Gears of War to which I told him I had Gears of War 2. “Awesome game” he said. My response/reaction was “meh.” I told him the way those super roided up dudes looked running around in the game turned me off to it. I added if I wanted to see people running around in slow motion like that I would re-watch Missy Elliott’s Sock it to Me video (which of course I did to my delight). Bun said only I would notice such a thing. I’m sure countless others have but whatever, he was cracking up that I noticed this. He suggested a series where I write reviews based on my perspective of these things. I acknowledged that my reviews would probably be unreasonable because roided up characters seems like an unreasonable reason to dislike a game. But it was one of mine. Thus, this series called Un/Reasonable Reviews is born.
As a person who struggles to find content mainly due to some serious writers block I welcome any inspiration to write. To get my self-deprecation out of the way I completely realize there is nothing special about reviews. Saturated would be an understatement but so what. If it will help get me writing I’ll take it. So occasionally I will be posting these un/reasonable reviews which are not solely about video games. Chances are more often than not they won’t be. I try my best to be as objective as possible which would result in what I feel is a reasonable review, however, there are times when I am extremely subjective to the point of being unreasonable and in those cases I own it.
