What do you write about when there’s lots to write about, yet nothing to write about? That’s where I’ve found myself for pretty much the past month. While I try to refrain from this blog becoming a personal diary of sorts I guess just to keep the juices flowing it’s ok to offer comments here and there on random current events, right? This will give you a snapshot to how my mind can work at times because it’s very sporadic.
I haven’t watched any debates and I have been trying to follow politics as little as possible. I can’t take it. This presidential election is going to suck. Usually the lesser of evils is a saying that doesn’t carry much weight because you’re choosing between a Whopper or a Big Mac which of course generates much weight (for the record I side with Rob Base on this issue). As for politics though, I am turned off immensely by most politicians at this point because they all seem very irrational to me. I personally will never understand extremes. How can anyone be so hell bent on seeing things in black and white as if grey doesn’t exist? The only thing that can fuel such extremes to me is hate, even when guised by the notion of love. For example, The Church professes its love for Christ but any candidate who holds steadfast to opposition of same sex marriage in the name of Christ can’t get my vote. I was raised Pentecostal and I wouldn’t ask the church to abandon its values. At the same time, I don’t agree with trying to impose those values on others. This is my middle of the road take on the subject and I hate when extremes are applied to any issues that liberals and conservatives find themselves at odds about. This leaves me to be more willfully ignorant than I care to be but I don’t want to listen to the banter.
Hip-Hop is on hospice in my opinion. I love hip-hop as it is near and dear to my generation’s heart and differs from the music made of this generation. Rather than be the crotchety old man who dismisses current music as not music, I prefer to just say it’s different. It’s rap music sure enough. Rapping is what these artists do same as singing is what Doo-Wop and New Jack Swing artists did. The overarching genre remains but the more specific cultural monikers like hip-hop remain with those who created it, live it, and breathe it. Which brings me to Redman. That dude is a beast. I saw the BET cypher he did with Def Squad and like countless others are saying I must agree, Redman CRUSHED it. Redman is hip-hop and he is a top ten MC, hands down. Compare his verse with modern rap music and you’ll see the ultimate distinction.
The New York Giants
I love my team. But they are the most beat up, broke down, oft injured motley crew of football players I’ve ever seen as of late. This upcoming Monday (October 19th, 2015) we have to play the Eagles and everyone seems questionable to play. At this rate we’re going to be rolling out a practice squad to fight to maintain our standing at the top of the division.
Isn’t it a shame when some of the things you regularly want feels presented like a window of opportunity? In other words, when you’re looking for opportunities, they may not be open to you because your window-keeper has decided no opportunities for you today. So now you’re on a waitlist. When the window-keeper finally decides to offer you said opportunity, what do you do when you don’t feel like exploring that opportunity? Do you a) pass up on the opportunity knowing it will put you back on the wait-list, or, b) take advantage of the opportunity only to possibly muck it up because you’re not as enthused about it at the time?
These are just a few of the multitude of things going through my mind. We won’t get into student loans, job hunting, my steadfast commitment to BlackBerry and Sprint, neither of which love me back, how my money in fanduel looks like a slow drain down a semi-clogged sink, and these digital tic-tac pedometers they call fitbits. At least not yet anyway.
